LGBTQ+ Pregnancy Care

We aim to provide excellent care to all of our patients throughout their reproductive journey, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

Topic: First Trimester

At Penn Medicine, we recognize that there is no single definition of family. We have designed our outpatient practices and inpatient units to be welcoming to all.

We acknowledge that pregnancy care has traditionally been centered around cisgender and heterosexual couples, and most educational materials reflect this. We aim to be inclusive of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, + (LGBTQ+) families, and respect the names, pronouns, and terminology that you use.

We care for birthing parents who are building their families through spontaneous conception, insemination, in vitro fertilization, and surrogacy. Our patients define their families, and we welcome partners and intended parents of gestational carriers throughout the pregnancy journey.

After delivery, we offer a variety of options for assistance with lactation, including support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding, induced lactation for non-birthing parents, and donor milk.
