What is a doula?
A doula is a person who supports other people during life events, commonly during labor and birth. They are trained to give continuous one-on-one care, physical support, and emotional support to you.
Why might you want to have a doula at your birth?
According to the March of Dimes, studies suggest there are many benefits to having continuous support during labor and birth. These benefits may include*:
- Increased rate of vaginal birth (lower C-section rates)
- Decrease in use of medications for pain relief
- Shorter labor
- Better satisfaction with birthing experience
